Grantor Name: Del E. Webb Foundation

Program Name: Single Suites Creation

Grant Amount: $50,000

Recipient Name: New Life Center

Overview of Use of Funds: Good Works Grant Writing is excited to congratulate our client, New Life Center, for being selected to receive a $50,000 grant from the Del E. Webb Foundation! This generous foundation grant will support New Life Center’s efforts to convert their current administrative office space into five single-occupant residential units, referred to as Single Suites, for single survivors of violence. New Life Center is one of the largest stand-alone domestic violence shelters in Arizona and one of the largest in the nation, but their unique, private, now 21-year-old facility needs significant improvements. The Del E. Webb Foundation’s capital grant will pay for a portion of renovation costs, increasing New Life Center’s capacity and making a truly extraordinary and long-lasting impact for both their organization and the entire domestic violence community.

Overview of Grant Objective/Impact: The stark reality is that most days, New Life Center’s emergency shelter is operating at full capacity. Compounding this harsh truth is that the current design of their facility is strictly constructed for families, creating a dynamic where individual survivors occupy casitas intended for more than one resident. The Single Suites renovation project will increase shelter capacity to serve approximately 70 additional single-occupant residents each year, while freeing up casita space better utilized for families – potentially enabling them to serve more than 400 additional survivors. Once completed and in use, the five new Single Suites will be maintained as part of NLC’s overall facilities plan and team that cares for the agency’s existing emergency shelter space.
