Overview of Use of Funds: Good Works Grant Writing is excited to congratulate our client, the State of Black Arizona, for being selected to receive a $25,000 grant from APS Corporate Giving! This generous corporate grant will support the State of Black Arizona’s 2024 African American Leadership Institute (AALI) and State of Black Housing Report. During 2024, the AALI will offer 20 Black professionals targeted masterclasses and a retreat, honing their leadership skills with culturally specific insights. The AALI fosters growth, networking, and strategies to enhance Black representation and racial equity in influential roles throughout the state. In collaboration with the Center for the Future of Arizona, the State of Black Arizona is analyzing housing data for the State of Black Housing Report to be released in 2024, focusing on the Black community’s homeownership discrepancies in Arizona. Serving 5,000 – 10,000, this report aims to spark proactive discussions among stakeholders to bridge these gaps.

Overview of Grant Objective/Impact: APS funding for the State of Black Arizona’s AALI will directly support the impact of the Black community by offering a 10-week institute that builds participants’ leadership skills and promotes their engagement across various sectors. Each leader that graduates from AALI is equipped with insights and action-steps that they can carry throughout the rest of their career and pass on to their close connections. By building up Black leaders, the State of Black Arizona’s AALI amplifies their voices across industries. Funding from APS will also help the State of Black Arizona compile housing data for a State of Black Housing report that will be published in 2024. They will disaggregate the data to reveal truths and challenges, as well as highlight opportunities to address homeownership disparities impacting the state’s Black community. The report will be a basis for conversations with community members, business leaders, educators, and elected officials on how to proactively address the disparity in Black homeownership in Arizona.
